Apple Mail and the plug-ins:
What is a plug-in?
Definition: A file containing data used to alter, enhance, or extend the operation of a parent application program.
Graphics programs, web browsers, and other applications use plug-ins.
Why would you want to use a plug-in?
Let's look at Apple Mail. Have you ever wanted to receive and send E-mail through your hotmail or msn mail account?
According to our whatmug list you do.
There is a shareware program (amoung many) called mail forward.
In this case it did not do the job well for the user I was helping.
So off to the internet to do some research.
I came up with 2 solid links that provide functionality to Apple Mail.
http://www.tikouka.net/mailapp/
http://www.queuesoft.jp/download-e.html
The first link provided the needed answer, httpmail plug-in.
Down load plug-in, mount disk image, double click on installer.
Then httpmail appears in the account type.
Fill in your info and it works. MSN example below.
Note: instructions are downloaded with plug-in.
Enter the incoming server, and select "none" for the outgoing server. The plug-in will insert the correct outgoing server by itself. I did have to restart mail a couple of times then it kicked in. Always send your self an e-mail to make sure it works. Remember that these programs are free, and can have bugs.
There are many other helpful plug-ins such as mailpictures. Sounds like a good program, however when you download it, the plug-ins says it is for 10.1x, and may not work with Jaguar. Beware, and do read the read me's.
You will find many other plug-ins that can be helpful.
Enjoy, and only download what you need.
