This month's theme is "Networking." When Kathy and I bought our house in 1998, we had to run some phone lines through the house, so we also ran some extra CAT5 wire (suitable for Ethernet) from my downstair office to her office upstairs on the opposite end of the house. With a simple router and cable Internet, we were able to have high-speed Internet and high-speed networking between our computers easily. And when we got a Powerbook to keep in the living room, we used Airport so it, too was in the network.

Then came iTunes. Last year at MacWorld San Francisco I picked up a Squeezebox -- a unit for streaming our iTunes collection into our stereo. No more looking for CDs (or CD covers)! All of our music is now available from any computer in the house, as well as via the remote control that comes with Squeezebox. Or we can put the whole library on "shuffle" and not have to ever do anything but turn it on and off. We can also listen to Internet radio. (My favorite station is Radio-IO Eclectic (www.radioio.com).

With iSync and .Mac we can keep the Powerbook synced with our iCal calendars and Address Book info, as well as our Safari bookmarks. And all of that is also synced with our Palm PDAs and iPod.

We keep our big (very big) collection of photos on the G5 desktop and we can view them from any computer in the house with iPhoto.

As I mentioned, we both have Palms, and we both use AvantGo to read web pages off line on the Palm. Since AvantGo stopped supporting OSX, we had to find a conduit for OSX. The "Missing Sync" (reviewed in this issue) does it, but it costs, and we found a free program MAL Conduit that did the trick. We are still considering the Missing Sync... (See Missing Sync review.)

In preparing for this issue, I read a review of Phone Valet which seemed like just the thing I've been looking for to integrate my phone and my Mac. I actually went on line and bought one after reading the review and checking out the site. (See Phone Valet review.)

Also reviewed in this issue is OmniWeb 5 - a very nice new Mac-only browser (See OmniWeb 5 review) and our president Mac Carter's review of Adobe InDesign 3CS.

Enjoy the issue!
